There are songs about shoes in nearly every music genre, such as "schlager", country, pop, punk, hard rock, hip-hop and rap. Thus, shoes express a certain lifestyle or group identity. Lyrics pay homage to special shoe types or popular brands of shoes. Some artists have created a memorial to their favorite shoes, like Elvis Presley with "Blue Suede Shoes". Shoes can also be connected to particular memories, as in "Daddy's Working Boots" by Dolly Parton or in Bata Illic's "Ich hab' noch Sand in den Schuhen" ("I Still Have Sand in my Shoes").
