Humans are the only mammals who walk upright their whole life long. Thus, their feet have to withstand a large burden since they have to carry the entire weight of the body. Over the course of their development, humans acquired the capability to produce tools and used them to shape their environment. With the help of shoes, they were soon able to protect themselves from adverse conditions in their surroundings.
Many mammals have developed natural foot protection, which has been perfectly adapted to their habitat. For that reason, they do not need any shoes.
Fur Boots
In cold regions, people need warm and waterproof shoes. Therefore, fur boots are the most prevalent shoe form here. If the furry side is turned inward, the insulating layers of air warm the foot. If the fur is on the outside (under the sole, for example), it prevents the wearer from slipping on icy surfaces.
