In combining topics from ethnology, natural history and commerce in a very unique way, the Übersee-Museum realizes an interdisciplinary exhibition concept. Cultural aspects are not only conceptually connected with natural science topics, but also by the particular exhibiting technique of the museum.
During the European Museum Forum's 2005 "European Museum of the Year Award", the Übersee-Museum was honored in recognition of "its remarkable accomplishment in enhancing the audience quality of its museum collections."
The museum's permanent exhibition covers 8,200 m2 and includes: Oceania, Asia, Africa, America, Evolution, Habitat Forest, and Bremen - the Trading City on the River.

In recent years, the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums in Mannheim (called rem) have developed into an internationally operating museum complex, an outstanding exhibition site, and an important research center. Especially in the areas of archaeology, world cultures and photography, they rank among the most important museums in Germany and Europe.
The newly reopened Zeughaus collection for art and cultural history and for the history of Mannheim and its surrounding region will also attract national and international museum interest. With a total of 11,300 m2 of exhibition space and about 1.2 Million objects, the rem is the southern Germany's biggest museum complex in local sponsorship.

The LWL Museum of Archaeology is the central showcase for archaeology in Westphalia. The Westphalian Landesmuseum with its unique architecture and form is one of the most modern museums in Europe. This museum, which opened its doors in Herne in 2003, welcomed its 400,000th visitor in May 2008. It has received numerous awards including the "red dot: grand prix 2006" for its research laboratory.
The 2,900 m2 excavation landscape located underground shows the 250,000-year-old history of humans in Westphalia. In the research laboratory, visitors can learn about the methods archaeologists use to study the traces of the past.
